THE BOAT HOUSE
Architects:  Wandrspace Studio \ Daria Malogrytsenko
Project area: 130 sq. m
Project year: 2022
Location: Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Living on houseboats was once considered to be a cheap alternative to buying a house, but as the advantages of living on the water became apparent they quickly rose in popularity. They eventually became so popular that The Dutch government capped the permits.

This particular project has been within the same family for over 50 years and has undergone a major makeover; from a wooden cottage to a water mansion.

Without a doubt, the heart of this project is the grand panoramic view of the lake. The scenery is an inherent part of the design; the white walls and the minimalist design of the room create an ambiance that seems to float in midair.
The main challenge of this project to design a living space, kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, and enough storage facilities for boat equipment within an area of 130 sq m. — and without compromising the view.
The living space and kitchen are free from overly crowded or complex structures, allowing the natural background outside to be visible.
The master bedroom sits on the second floor, with enough storage space, and a king size bed that has a direct view on the lake.

The bathroom is located on the ground floor, with one-way privacy glass, offering spectacular views on the lake.
